Pediatric Seating, Mobility & Adaptive Equipment Evaluations

Every child deserves equipment that supports more than mobility. It should support comfort, safety, independence, participation, and the activities that make childhood meaningful.

LimbTech provides comprehensive pediatric seating, positioning, and mobility evaluations for children with a wide range of needs. Whether your child needs their first piece of adaptive equipment, has outgrown an existing system, or something simply is not working anymore, our team can help you understand the options and determine the next step.

Equipment That Fits the Child, Not the Other Way Around

Children grow, routines change, and mobility needs can evolve quickly. The equipment that worked well a year ago may no longer provide the right fit, positioning, support, or independence today.

During a pediatric seating and mobility evaluation, LimbTech considers your child's individual needs, daily activities, home and school environments, current equipment, caregiver needs, and long-term goals.

Depending on your child's needs, evaluations may include:

When Should My Child Receive a Seating or Mobility Evaluation?

An evaluation may be helpful if:

  • Your child has outgrown their current wheelchair, seating system, stroller, stander, or other equipment.

  • Their current equipment is uncomfortable or no longer provides adequate support.

  • You notice changes in posture, positioning, mobility, or function.

  • Your child is getting their first wheelchair or piece of adaptive mobility equipment.

  • Transfers or daily mobility are becoming increasingly difficult for the child or caregiver.

  • Your child's current equipment no longer works well at home, school, or in the community.

  • A physician, therapist, ATP, school team, or equipment provider has recommended new equipment.

  • You know something needs to change but are not sure what equipment would help.

You do not need to arrive knowing which product or model your child needs. Helping determine the appropriate equipment is part of the evaluation process.

What Happens During a Pediatric Equipment Evaluation?

We start by getting to know your child.

Your clinician will discuss your child's daily routines, goals, medical and functional needs, environments, current equipment, and what is or is not working well.

Depending on the equipment being considered, the evaluation may also look at areas such as posture, range of motion, strength, skin protection, transfers, mobility, positioning, and equipment access.

LimbTech can work alongside families, caregivers, physicians, therapists, Assistive Technology Professionals (ATPs), and durable medical equipment suppliers to help identify an appropriate solution and provide the clinical documentation needed for the equipment process.

Your Child’s Needs Come First

LimbTech is an independent clinical provider, which means our recommendations are based on your child’s individual needs, not on selling a particular piece of equipment.

We work with families, physicians, therapists, Assistive Technology Professionals, and medical equipment suppliers to help identify seating, positioning, and mobility solutions that support your child’s comfort, safety, participation, and independence.

Our role is to provide the occupational therapy evaluation, clinical expertise, and documentation needed to help move the equipment process forward, while keeping your child at the center of every recommendation.

Pediatric Evaluations Without the Guesswork

Navigating adaptive equipment can feel complicated, especially when referrals, prescriptions, insurance requirements, equipment suppliers, and medical documentation are all involved.

You do not have to understand the entire system before asking for help.

LimbTech offers pediatric evaluations in person and through telehealth when clinically appropriate, and our team can help families understand what information may be needed to begin the referral process.

Not Sure Where to Start?
